ATU Local 1576 is pleased to recognize Community Transit's decision to award the contract for coach operator barrier doors to Vision Systems Canada. This milestone reflects a shared commitment to enhancing safety and security for transit professionals who serve our communities every day.

And make no mistake--this didn't happen by accident--it took years of relentless advocacy. I would like to recognize the contribution of Financial Secretary David Thompson, who has been one of the loudest and most effective voices pushing for this crucial safety improvement. Dave and the committee helped lead the team that created the list of must-have and nice-to-have features for the new barriers. Dave played a key role on the panel that selected Vision Systems Canada as the final vendor. He made sure the operator's perspective was front and center, and he helped shape a solution that actually works.

We also extend our thanks to ATU Recording Secretary Risë Gamble, Executive Board Member Robert Gaines, and Emergency Response Advocate Michael Widman who represented ATU members during the selection process, bringing knowledge, experience, and passion to the table every step of the way.

The chosen vendor, Vision Systems Canada, is known for producing top-tier transit safety equipment including barrier doors that are the best in the market. These barriers will be strong, functional, and built to last--giving operators the protection they've long needed.

Operator protection is a top priority, and the implementation of high-quality barrier doors will provide an added layer of safety while allowing operators to focus on delivering reliable service. Vision Systems Canada's reputation for excellence assures that these enhancements will meet the highest standards in durability and functionality.

ATU Local 1576 will continue fighting for safer, fairer working conditions for all our members. This is a major step forward--and we're just getting started.

With unity and respect,

Dani Julien
