Dear Members,

We started the day at the ATU office and then met with Community Transit in the afternoon for our bargaining session.

With two of our contracts ratified in the last month, our calendar has opened up to add more dates throughout the year, including dedicated sessions for individual classifications.

Tentative Agreements Reached Today:

We reached several clarity and housekeeping TA’s today on: Articles 10.3, 12.10, 12.11, 14, 15.1, and 25.14.

Dispatch Lead Proposal

Bargaining Committee member Eric Sullivan talked about our proposal for a Lead position in Dispatch; this position would be a single point of contact to keep all the moving parts in dispatch organized.  Right now, dispatchers are working incredibly hard to keep everything running without a central coordinator. This role would take on key tasks and help streamline the work to support the whole unit.

Vacation Bids

We also discussed our intent to bring the current vacation bidding process, the one we’ve already used for years under a “trial agreement”, directly into the contract so the language matches what we actually do.

Article 16.3C

CT agreed that if an employee tests positive, but the split-sample comes back negative, the employee will be paid for the any lost time. That’s an important protection.

Holidays

We reviewed CT’s proposal on holidays and continued the conversation about our proposal to bank holidays that fall on an employee’s Regular Day Off.

Our next full bargaining date is December 2nd.  We will bargain for Facilities Maintenance, with a presentation from the ATU International on our proposal for an apprenticeship program that would create a clear path from Tech I to Tech II.

Thank you for staying engaged and united. Every step we take together moves us closer to the contract our members deserve.

In Solidarity,

Dani Julien
