Island Transit Bargaining Update

August 1, 2025

Your ATU Bargaining Team met today with Island Transit, who presented the union with a partial proposal covering both some economic impact items and non-economic language items. Island Transit has agreed to provide the Union with a full wage proposal by our August 13th meeting.

The meeting today was very productive, and we are pleased to share with our membership that we signed two important Tentative Agreements, which came from our initial proposal to Island Transit:

  • Article 18 Pre-Trip paid time will be increased from 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Article 27 Bereavement Leave will be increased to 5 days.

This signals to the Union that Island Transit is interested in a collaborative and productive bargaining and is invested in making the agency an employer of choice.

Our next bargaining session is scheduled for full day bargaining on August 12 and 13, to take place at the base on Whidbey. The bargaining team today included President Dani Julien, Vice President Lela Perkins, Executive Board Officers Traynor Hunt and Susan Lien, and Shop Steward Jim McNaughton.

Please reach out with questions and continue to stay involved! We had great attendance at the Membership meeting on July 20th at the Coupeville Library, where we presented to the membership ATU’s full contract proposal and had good discussion.

In Solidarity,

ATU 1576 Bargaining Team
