Island Transit Board Members Propose Funding Cut—Putting Worker Wages & Benefits at Risk
At the March 7th Island Transit Board meeting, some IT board members proposed reducing the agency’s sales tax revenue by 1%—a move that threatens the wages, benefits, and job security of our hardworking transit employees.
Lela Perkins, attended as our ATU Labor Representative designee and spoke out forcefully and from the heart on our member’s behalf, advocating for the funding necessary to keep our transit system strong and our workers protected. IT Executive Director Melinda Adams presented a compelling case against this harmful proposal at 5:16, and your ATU Labor Rep delivered a statement defending your livelihood at 40:16.
We encourage all members to listen to the meeting recording at the link below and stay informed. Your voice and solidarity matter in the fight to increase our members to fair wages and benefits as we enter contract negotiations.
