March 2026 Bulletin

Shop Steward Sign-up and Training
The Sign-up Sheet for Shop Stewards will be going up in April. Here are some things to remember:
- To be eligible to be appointed as a Shop Steward, you must be a member in good standing
- You must attend the Shop Steward Training initially, and every other year thereafter. If you attended last year you are not required to attend again this year. However, it is a great opportunity to learn from other stewards.
- If you are currently a Shop Steward and would like to continue to serve, you MUST put your name on the Sign-up List.
Shop Steward Training will be held at the Labor Temple in the John Noble room on May 9th from 10am to 4pm. The address 2810 Lombard, Everett. Please be sure to park on the south side of the building
Emergency Response Advocate
In 2024 President Dani Julien and Executive Board Officer Risë Gamble believed there was a need to shepherd our members through the process of recovering from an assault. From that belief, the Emergency Response Advocate program was born.If you are unaware of what they do, that’s good! It means you haven’t been assaulted and our members’ privacy is being protected.
Currently, we have 3 members of this program: Michael Widman, Maria Loaiza, and Joanie Jensen. Maria and Michael are a.m. drivers, and Joanie is a.m. dispatch. Please be aware that this is an unpaid, voluntary position. Discretion is of the utmost importance as you will be privy to member’s health information. If you have an interest in participating in this program, we are currently looking for p.m. drivers. A sign-up will be posted on the union board outside of dispatch. Selections will be made by the Executive Board and the Officers.
New Report Operators
ATU is working with Community Transit to provide a guideline for Report Operator Expectations. These will be available for you at the Dispatch window soon. When we have been notified that they are available we will send out a text blast. Please pick one up when they are available.
Barrier Doors Update
The prototype of the barrier door will arrive soon, and installation will be scheduled shortly after. There may be adjustments that have to be made for the different coaches, and from comments from the drivers; having said that, the procurement committee is still looking to have the Swift coaches complete by the end of 2026.
Member Spotlight: Sukhbir Sangha
Sukhbir is one of the most senior drivers at Community Transit. At present Mr. Sangha is #2 in seniority, having started here January 30th of 1990. He drove for ATE Management and Service Company (which became First Transit) for the two years prior, so he brought his ATU membership with him.
Sukhbir is a Two Million Mile Driver. By this time next year, he may probably have achieved Three Million Miles!
Brother Sukhbir has been a dedicated member of the Amalgamated Transit Union for nearly 38 years and is still going strong alongside his union brothers and sisters.
