Dear Members,

Last night, Community Transit informed us of a serious incident on the Swift Orange Line. Shots were fired near 164th Street SE and 9th Avenue SE shortly after 5 p.m. A bus window was struck, but thankfully, no one was injured.

We want you to know that there was an immediate response: in addition to responding law enforcement, the operator was met and assisted by ATU Emergency Advocate Michael Widman and Executive Board Officer Eric Sullivan, along with Transit Security Officers and several CT supervisors. The operator has been placed on administrative leave, and will continue to be offered support.

This kind of violence is deeply troubling, and it underscores the need for strong protections for frontline transit workers. Our union is monitoring updates from Mill Creek Police and Community Transit as the investigation moves forward.

We will keep you updated as more information becomes available. In the meantime, please continue to look out for each other and reach out if you need support.

In solidarity,
Dani Julien
President, ATU Local 1576
