In Solidarity with ATU Local 587
ATU Brothers and Sisters:
We are all truly heartbroken and horrified by the loss of our ATU brother from Local 587, Shaun Yim, who was senselessly killed yesterday while on the job.
On behalf of all of us, I reached out yesterday morning to 587 President Greg Woodfill to extend our deepest sympathy to the Local and offer our support in anything they need. Additionally, I have spoken with the ATU International regarding the urgent need for locals to collaborate on the fight to protect our members in what are increasingly difficult and dangerous jobs. We posted the communication from International President John Costa to our Facebook page yesterday and as more information becomes available regarding the memorial for Brother Yim, we will share that with you.
Our Emergency Response Advocate Michael Widman was at CT base on the 18th and Risë Gamble will be there today to listen to members’ feedback and questions. These increasing assaults and unsafe working conditions are completely unacceptable, and we will stand united with the other locals in our fight for worker safety.
In solidarity,
Danielle Julien, President B/A
