Community Transit Colleagues,

With heavy heart, I must share with you news of the sudden passing of our Community Transit colleague, Heather Rodriguez. Heather has been a coach operator at CT for almost seven years and a beloved member of our agency. Heather had an exuberant personality and a friendly nature. She was also an outspoken advocate for her colleagues’ safety on the road.

On a personal note, Heather was the first person I met in-person when I arrived at MCOB on my first day with the agency. We got acquainted over the past year riding Swift on the morning commute, and she always had observations and words of advice to share about conditions in the field.  In fact, we had a good talk last Thursday morning at Aurora Village before heading north. The well-being of her colleagues and customers was always uppermost on her mind.  She made a big impact on all who knew her and she will be missed.

Heather is survived by two daughters, one son and other extended family members. We will work closely with her family to ensure they are supported during this time. When we have more information on her memorial service or how others may be able to support her family, we will share this with you.

The loss of a colleague is heart wrenching. We have support available for all employees. We have asked a counselor from our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to be present at our Merrill Creek Operating Base (MCOB) this week for anyone who would like to speak with them.

A counselor will be available for drop-in visits in the small conference room at MCOB during these times:

  • Monday, 3/28, 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 3/29, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, 3/30, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

EAP support is also always available via phone at (800) 553-7798.

Please join me in holding Heather and her loved ones in your hearts.  Thank you for caring for yourselves and each other during this time.
